New "Ask Dave" Feature Here is your chance to ask Colgate Athletic Director Dave Roach questions about Raider athletics. Ask Dave
Inside Raider Athletics With Athletic Director Dave Roach 1) Would you please put the rumor mill to rest - are there any plans over the years to renovate Starr Rink, say, with a mezzanine?
We have done an assessment of all of our facilities and are in the process discussing these findings and making recommendations as to the best way to proceed to expand and renovate our facilities. We clearly need to improve our existing physical plant. Thanks.
2) Why is it that Colgate has not been able to expand the draw that a combination of Division I status, highly regarded academics and a valuable diploma that has been successful in football to other sports? I would think we should always be fielding a top 10 hockey team (not a top 20). And why are we so consistently underwhelming in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's soccer (on the national stage)?
I think part of your answer is in the answer to the question just prior to this one regarding facilities. Being Division I with great academics does not insure athletic success. The world of DI athletics is very competitive. Our move to scholarships with the Class of 2008 was certainty a step that will expand our recruiting pool and make us more competitive. We also need to improve our infrastructure in regards to overall support for our programs. We are working hard on this and I hope you will see positive results as we move forward. Thanks for your question.
