LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (8/26/07) – Colgate University women's hockey player
Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) scored with just three seconds remaining in overtime to give the Canadian National U-22 Team a 4-3 win over Team USA on Sunday, Aug. 26.
The win gave Team Canada the swept over Team USA in the three-game series that took place in Lake Placid this week. Canada posted a 3-1 victory on Thursday and took a 3-2 game on Friday.
In the final game today, the two teams battled back and forth throughout the game, with each scoring a goal in each period.
With just seconds remaining in the 10-minute overtime session Jocelyne Larocque intercepted a Team USA pass to keep the puck in the US end of the ice. Her attempt at the attack was unsuccessful but the puck found its way to Catherine Ward's stick. Ward fired a low shot towards the middle of the net that was deflected in by Hunt to give Canada the overtime win.
The Canadians outshot the Americans 11-2 in the overtime period and 36-24 overall.
Hunt and the Colgate Raiders open the 2007-08 season on Sept. 29, when they host Durham Jr. Lightning in an exhibition game at 6 p.m.
