HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/1/08) - The Colgate football team completed spring practice on Wednesday, April 23. "We went into spring practice knowing that we would be down in numbers because of injuries, etc.," said head coach Dick Biddle. "We were able to evaluate some people, as the main purpose of spring practice is to give players a chance to develop."
The Raiders spread 15 practices over a four-week span from late March to late April. The sessions concluded with a 45-play scrimmage on Wednesday, April 23. Coach Biddle mentioned players whose performance stood out. "Our offensive line did an outstanding job all spring and wide receiver Pat Simonds (Sidney, NY) really stepped up. On defense, Greg Hadley (Fayetteville, NY) had an excellent spring. Heading into fall camp, some questions still remain to be answered. The back-up QB position is still up for grabs as are some of the linebacker positions. It appears that some incoming freshmen will compete for playing time and contribute on special teams.
"I think we have a chance to have an excellent team," said coach Biddle, who is entering his 13th season at Colgate and is tied with Andy Kerr as the winningest coach in school history.
