Former Colgate Rowers Represent US at World Championship
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (7/3/08) – Two former Colgate University rowers have qualified for the 2008 World Rowing Under 23 Championships and will represent the United States. Bryan Pape ('08) and Andrew Hatzenbuhler ('08) are the first Colgate oarsmen to row for the U.S. in international competition, as they will race in the men's pair in the world championship in Bradenburg, Germany on July 17-20.

"Both Andrew and I are ecstatic about making the Under-23 National Team and our chance to represent our country and compete against the best in the world in Germany," Pape said. "We are grateful for our experience rowing at Colgate since this opportunity is due largely to the individual instruction that we received in our four years with Coach Sanad."

The pair qualified at the USRowing U23 World Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., on June 26. The duo raced under Penn A.C. Rowing Association and clocked in at 2:15.187 in the final on Thursday, beating the second place boat by just over one second.

Following the win at the trials, the pair had to select a coach who would be required to travel with the athletes for the duration of the trip and will be responsible for their training and requirements during the regatta. Pape and Hatzenbuhler selected Colgate head coach Khaled Sanad. Sanad will also coach the coxed four in Germany.

With the annual participation of approximately 40 countries and 600 athletes, the world of rowing will be focused on Germany in July.
