Field Hockey Prepares For CMU and Miami

HAMILTON, N.Y.  (9/12/2008) – The Colgate field hockey team will look to stretch its winning streak to three games Saturday afternoon as it plays Miami at Central Michigan University.  The game starts at 1 p.m.
 
 The Raiders, 3-1 overall, ride into Mount Pleasant following a pair of victories over Monmouth (4-2) and Rider (3-1) last weekend in New Jersey.
 
Colgate's offense features seven different goal scorers after the first four contests.  Mika Ella-Tang (Port of Spain, Trinidad) leads the squad with three goals and seven points, while Lauren Carey (Medfield, Mass.) is second with two goals and six points.  Rebecca Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) and Alison Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) also have scored twice in the early stages of the season.
 
Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) heads into the weekend sporting  a 3-1 record in the net for the Raiders.  The junior has turned aside 30 shots in the first four contests.
 
Central Michigan, 0-2 overall, is paced by Brooke Sihola (two goals) and Kim Erasmus (three assists).  The Chippewas have dropped games to Stanford and nationally-ranked Syracuse.
 
This will be the third ever meeting between the two squads with the series tied 1-1.  Last season, the Raiders posted a 2-1 victory over CMU on goals by Carey and Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.). The game is set for a noon start Sunday.
 
On Saturday, Colgate will play Miami (Ohio) for the first time ever.  The game is set for a 1 p.m. start in Mount Pleasant.
 
The Red Hawks, who play Central Michigan this afternoon, are also 3-1 overall.  Miami has downed Davidson, Richmond and Sacred Heart, while dropping a decision to nationally ranked Northwestern.  The Red Hawks' offensive attack features 12 different goal scorers thus far, including team leader Elizabeth Gilroy's three goals and eight points.  Teja Kammler (two goals, seven points) and Courtney Fretz (two goals, six points) are also early scoring threats.  Goalie Abbey Huck is 3-1 with a 1.71 goals against average.
