Golf Places Fifth in Final Event of the Season

BETHLEHEM, PA. – In its final match of the 2009 fall season, the Colgate men’s golf team finished fifth out of nine schools, and had two golfers finish in the top-15 at the Lehigh Kelly Gutshall Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Saucon Valley Country Club.
 
Sophomore Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) led the Colgate team in both rounds, shooting a 73 in his opening round Friday, followed by a 76 on day two for a 149 on the weekend, which gave him a second place tie on in the event with Lafayette’s Carter Rufe.
 
Coming off an ECAC Championship victory the weekend before, senior David Ake (Topsfield, Mass.) ended his weekend with a top-15 finish, shooting a 75-80 for a 155 in the invitational.
 
The other eight schools that participated in the weekend were Drexel, Bucknell, Villanova, Lehigh, Siena, St. Bonaventure, Lafayette and St. Peter’s College. The Dragons of Drexel picked up the overall win on the weekend shooting a two-day, five-golfer score of 609.
 
Will  Delano (New Canaan, Conn.) shot a 159 (76-83), Nick Parry’s (Washington, D.C.) 161 (79-82) and Neil Thompson’s (Sherborn, Mass.) 171 on a 91-80 weekend, all helped the Raiders earn their fifth place finish.
 
This was the last event of the fall season for the Raiders. The squad will hit the links again in the spring of 2010.
