CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (11/10/09) - Five student-athletes from the Colgate men’s soccer team were selected to All-Patriot League teams it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The league also announced the 2009 major award winners with freshman Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) claiming one of the top honors.
Reidy, a Second Team All-League selection was also named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year. He is the third Raider to be awarded the Rookie of the Year honor. The freshman midfielder was second on the team in scoring and tied for first in goals scored with 15 points off of seven goals and one assist. Reidy’s seven goals made him tied for first among league freshman, while nine of his points came against Patriot League opponents.
Seniors Alex Weekes (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Chris Ross (Hurst, Texas) were both named to the All-League First Team, along with junior Jeff Leach (New Canaan, Conn.). It is the second All-League selection for both Weekes and Ross as well as Ross’ second consecutive nod for the first team. Leach earned his second selection to an All-League team this season, giving the Raiders a forward, midfielder and defender all on the first team.
Weekes led Colgate in scoring this season and came in second in the Patriot League with 18 points off of seven goals and four assists. Ross and Leach were tied third in scoring for the Raiders each with eight points off of two goals and four assists.
Joining Reidy on the Second Team was Chris Salmon (Auburn, Wash.). The senior defender helped lead the Raiders defense, holding league opponents to just nine goals and 65 shots. Salmon also tallied a goal and an assist for Colgate.
Patriot League regular season champs, Bucknell, named a league-high six players to All-League teams, while American added five. Lehigh placed four members on the teams while Lafayette placed two. Holy Cross rounded out the selections placing one student-athlete on the team.
