HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/30/09) – Colgate men’s lacrosse seniors participated in “A Run Down Hero Highway," a 4 1/2 mile run/walk in NYC, on Sunday, November 19.
The event was organized by Lead The Way, created in honor of Sgt. James J. Regan, a former Duke lacrosse player, who was killed in Iraq while serving with Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, hopes to raise money for the families of fallen soldiers.
There were approximately 900 participants, as many great lacrosse programs were well represented. Nancy Crown, mother of senior defenseman
Michael Crown (Winnetka, Ill.), stated, "It was truly inspirational. There were Rangers running with weighted, 70 lb plus packs and one fireman in full gear walking the 4 1⁄2 miles.”
Crown said, “The Colgate men stood out in their Penguin costumes and created quite a stir.”
The run was scheduled to take off at 9:03am – the time the second World Trade Building was hit on 9-11. “As a mother who very nearly lost her son in the Towers that day, I was incredibly moved by the event, especially as I watched and spoke with Jimmy’s [James Regan] parents throughout the day," said Crown.
