Colgate Women Swimmers Down BC
Caren Guyett
Caren Guyett captured two wins in the victory over BC
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS.  (11/7/09)  – Colgate returned to 2008-09 form by posting victories in 12 events in a convincing 176-111 victory over Boston College in women’s swimming action at the Flynn Recreation Pool Complex.

Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) was a quadruple winner, while Lia Kunnapas (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) was a triple winner as the Raiders improved to 1-2 on the year.  Courtney Callahan (Tarrytown, N.Y.), Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Emma Santoro (Fall River, Mass.), and Kim Pilka (Great Falls, Va.) each tallied two victories.

After BC claimed the top three spots in the 100 back and took its first lead, Colgate recovered in the next event – the 100 breast and posted one of its five one-two finishes of the meet to take the lead for good.  The Raiders also swept the 200 back.

McGraw teamed with Kunnapas, Callahan, and Kim Siembieda (Narbeth, Pa.)  to win the opening event, the 200 medley relay, with a 1:49.22.  The junior later returned to win the 50 (24.97) and 100 (53.07) freestyles before teaming with Guyett, Kunnapas, and Santoro in the 400 free relay (3:34.63).

Sarah Button (Mendham, N.J.), a returning Patriot League honoree from last year, won the 200 back (2:10.78), while Erica Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.) and Siembieda finished second and third respectively with times of 2:11.31 and 2:12.41.

Santoro led a one-two finish in the 200 breast.  The freshman touched with a winning time of 2:26.91 ahead of Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.), who posted a 2:28.83.  Callahan (1:09.10) and Curran (1:09.69) duplicated the feat in the 100 breast.

Guyett won the 200 free (1:56.59) and Derlath copped the 500 free (5:09.16).

Colgate’s three other one-two finishes included the 100 free as Santoro (53.94) finished behind McGraw and in the 200 fly as Kunnapas posted a winning time of 2:09.69 with Derlath placing second (2:09.86).

Pilka posted firsts in the one-meter (246.40) and three-meter (258.60) events.
