McIntyre and Larkin Recognized By ECAC Hockey
Thomas Larkin
Thomas Larkin gained ECAC Hockey recognition for the first time in his career following his performances versus Harvard and Dartmouth.

ALBANY, N.Y. (11/9/09)  – After posting a weekend sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth, two Colgate men’s hockey players were recognized for their respective performances as the ECAC Hockey League Office announced its weekly awards, Monday afternoon.

David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) and Thomas Larkin (Cocquio Trevisago, Italy) were honored respectively as the ECAC Hockey Player and Rookie-of-the-Week as voted on by league head coaches.

“They played a major role for us over the weekend,” said Colgate head coach Don Vaughan.  “It took a team effort to come from behind to beat Harvard and then defeat Dartmouth the next afternoon.  McIntyre and Larkin are two big time players that stepped up and made plays for us all weekend.”

McIntyre, a returning first team All-American, exploded over the weekend for two goals and three assists as Colgate posted a pair of impressive one-goal victories.  The senior was instrumental in the Raiders overcoming a three-goal deficit in the 5-4 victory over Harvard.  McIntyre finished with a four-point evening versus the Crimson, which set a personal best.  His three helpers tied a personal best set last year in a 5-4 overtime victory over Lake Superior State.   With his four-point effort versus Harvard, McIntyre became the 48th player in the program’s storied history to surpass the 100-point milestone.  The following afternoon, McIntyre lit the lamp for the second time this season to give Colgate a 1-0 lead over Dartmouth.  The Raiders prevailed 3-2 over the Big Green.
McIntyre heads into this weekend’s games with two goals and 11 points.  His assist total ranks second among league skaters and resides third in points.

Larkin posted his first multi-point game of his young career in the victory over Harvard.  The freshman defenseman tallied his first career goal at 8:40 of the second period against the Crimson to get Colgate on the board.  Larkin returned to the point column on the Raiders’ third goal as he assisted on Austin Smith’s first of two goals.  He has a goal and six assists in his nine outings thus far in 2009-2010.

Colgate, 4-2-3 overall and 2-0-0 in ECAC Hockey play, returns to action Friday evening at Brown.  Opening face-off at Meehan Auditorium is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
