INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (11/9/09) - The Colgate women’s soccer team will face fourth-seeded Penn State in the first round of the 28th NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, it was announced this evening by the NCAA Women’s Soccer Committee.
The No. 22 ranked Nittany Lions (12-5-2) will host the first two rounds on campus on Jeffrey Field at University Park, Pa. Penn State received an automatic bid into the tournament after defeating Michigan 2-0 to claim their 12th straight Big Ten Championship.
The Raiders (11-6-3) earned the automatic qualifier after defeating American 1-0 in double overtime to win their 11th Patriot League Championship. This marks Colgate’s first NCAA appearance since upsetting the University of Arizona in the first round back in 2004.
Of the 64 teams, Stanford University, UNC Chapel Hill, UCLA and Florida State received the four No. 1 seeds. The Raiders and Penn State have been placed in the UCLA bracket.
Colgate is set to take on the Nittany Lions this Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will face the victor of Virginia/St. John’s (N.Y.) on Sunday, Nov. 15. All three games will be played at University Park, Pa.
