HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/30/09) — The Colgate University women’s track and field team will hit the road to Army this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Championships on May 1-3. The Raiders finished seventh in last year’s championship meet.

Colgate was picked to finish seventh overall in the preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. The field events for the women will start at 12 p.m., while the heptathlon kicks off at 12:20 p.m., and the running events start at 2:30 p.m.

The Raiders are led in the sprints by the dynamic duo of senior Curry Knox (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomore Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.). Knox is the top Colgate runner in the 100- and 200-meter dash along with the 100-meter hurdles. She currently ranks first in the Patriot League in the 100m dash and 100m hurdles and second in the 200m dash. Knox’s top times this season are 11.80 in the 100m, 24.71 in the 200m and 14.53 in the hurdles, all Colgate records. Miller is the top Raider in the 400-meter dash and ranks third, respectively, in the Patriot League. She ranks first all-time at Colgate 400m. Both Miller and Knox are also integral parts of Colgate’s 4x100 relay team, which ranks second in the Patriot League.

Freshman Kendall Lyons (Wilton, Conn.) is Colgate’s top middle distance performer. She has dropped valuable seconds off of her 1,500-meter time throughout the season and recently ran a personal best of 4:40.94 at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Lyons PR time ranks third in the Patriot League.

Anchoring the distance corps will be sophomore Julie Tarallo (Easton, Mass). Tarallo owns the fourth fastest time in the 10,000-meter run this season, running the 6.2 miles in a time of 37:43.99 at the Bison Outdoor Classic. She clocked a season-best time of 18:01.02 in the 5,000 at the Sam Howell Invitational.

Junior Sarah Chabal (Hummelstown, Pa.) recently tied the Colgate record in the triple jump with a mark of 37’ 11.5” and ranks third in the Patriot League this season.

A selection of runners will continue the season next weekend at the ECAC Championship at Princeton University.
