CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (5/4/09) - The Colgate women’s rowing team competed in their final events of the 2009 season at the ECAC Rowing Championships this past weekend. The women entered both their Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 boats in the race.
The women’s V4 boat competed in the fourth event of the day earning a second place finish in the second heat with a time of 8:08.10. This was good enough to qualify the boat for the V4 Grand Final, alongside both the Princeton “A” and “B” boats, as well as Bucknell, Villanova and URI. Seventeen boats competed in the three heats of the V4.
The Raiders finished fourth in the Final, and therefore overall, with a time of 7:58.93, just three seconds away from the third place finisher, Villanova. Princeton “A” won the V4 race with a time of 7:39.26 in the Final. In the Colgate V4 boat were coxswain Natalie Hanigan (Chicago, Ill.), Symone Jackson (Detroit, Mich.), Laura Crawford (Allentown, N.J.), Meredith Buerger (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Katie Johnescu (York, Pa.) in bow.
In the V8 heat race, Colgate finished fourth in the first heat with a time of 7:16.73 to qualify for the Petite Final. Seven teams took part in the Petite Final, including Marist, George Mason, George Washington, Villanova, Robert Morris and Fairfield. Colgate placed second in the Final with a time of 7:09.92, just four seconds behind first-place Marist.
The Raiders V8 boat earned an overall finish of eighth place. The V8 boat consisted of coxswain Allison Patchen (Pittsford, N.Y.), Meredith Remmer (Oakdale, N.Y.), Annabelle Glass (Vancouver, B.C.), Vicky Hulit (Rye, N.Y.), Lauren Schmetterling (Moorestown, N.J.), Sarah Kruse (Glen Ridge, N.J.), Kalin Hennegan (Littleton, Colo.), Elspeth Monigle (Denver, Colo.) and Britt Woodbury (Winnetka, Ill.) in bow.
