HAMILTON, N.Y. (6/1/09) - Five members of the Colgate University women’s rowing team were selected as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athletes it was announced by the organization on Friday, May 29.
Earning the honor are: juniors Meredith Buerger (Menlo Park, Calif.), Vicky Hulit (Rye, N.Y.) and Allison Patchen (Pittsford, N.Y.) and seniors Sarah Kruse (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and Meredith Remmer (Oakdale, N.Y.).
Buerger is making her second appearance on the CRCA list. She is an art history major and was a member of Colgate’s varsity four boat. Kruse, a molecular biology major is making her third appearance on the list and sits in the 6-seat of the varsity eight. Patchen, the coxswain of the eight boat also earned her second CRCA honor, while Hulit, also of the eight boat earned her first appearance on the list. Patchen is studying sociology while Hulit is a psychology major. Remmer, who was named Colgate’s Female Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned her second appearance on the CRCA list. She is a biology major and was the stroke of the varsity eight boat.
Both the Raiders Varsity four and Varsity eight boats advanced to the final rounds at the ECAC-Metro Rowing Championships. The varsity four boat qualified for the final where they finished fourth, while the eight boat earned a spot in the Petite final race where they placed second.
CRCA criteria requires student-athletes to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester for the current competition year). They must also have reached sophomore eligibility status, and rowed in her institution’s NCAA eligible boat for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races. The head coach of the student-athlete’s institution must also have been in good standing of the CRCA.
