HAMILTON, N.Y. (7/2/09)  -  Former Colgate hockey standout Andy McDonald `00 has been selected to attend Canada’s National Men’s Team orientation, it was recently announced by Hockey Canada.

McDonald, who starred for the Raiders between 1997-00, was one of 46 players representing 24 NHL teams invited to attend this camp, which runs from August 24-27 in Calgary.  The list of invitees includes five goalies, 16 defensemen, and 25 forwards.

The native of Strathroy, Ontario has played in 486 professional games and has accumulated 121 goals and 218 assists for 339 career points.  During his 2008-09 season, McDonald played in 46 games for the St. Louis Blues and tallied 44 points on 15 goals and 29 assists.  He was an important member of the 2007 Anaheim Mighty Ducks’ Stanley Cup title team.

McDonald, a two-time all-ECAC Hockey selection, is tied for 16th on Colgate’s all-time scoring list.  In 137 games, he amassed 67 goals and 87 assists.  As a senior, he helped lead the Raiders to a 24-9-2 season and a spot in the NCAA East Region with a team-best 58 points, which stands tied for seventh on the single-season list.  He was named a first team all-league honoree; gained All-America accolades, and was a finalist for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award for his efforts that season.

Team Canada’s roster will eventually be cut down to 23 by the end of December, when rosters must be set and submitted.
