HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/12/09) - Colgate sophomore Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) and Lafayette’s Rob Robertson both scored a 71, to finish one under par in the first round of action at the Colgate Invitational on Saturday.
Nine teams, including two Colgate squads, are participating in the annual tournament which takes place at Colgate’s Seven Oaks Golf Club. The course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is considered one of the top 25 college courses in the nation. It is an 18-hole, 6,915-yard course with a par-72.
The Raiders’ “Maroon” team is currently in first place after the first day of play, with a total score 295. Fellow Patriot League opponent, Lafayette follows just behind the Raiders with a score of 297. Bucknell and Laval are tied in third place with a score total of 300. The Colgate “White” team finished day one with a score of 318.
Rounding out the top five individuals are Brian Bartow, Devon O’Rourke and Julieu Proulx, tied for third place, just behind Jessen and Robertson, with a first-round total of 73. Nick Parry (Washington, D.C.) is finished with the second-best score for the Raiders, tying for sixth overall with a score of 74.
Day two of the Invitational will continue tomorrow with tee time starting off at 8 a.m.
