Women's Tennis Opens Fall Schedule at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. (9/21/09) - The Colgate women’s tennis team opened their fall schedule at the Cornell Fall Frosty Invitational this weekend Sept. 18-20. Five teams participated in this tournament: Binghamton, Colgate, Cornell, Lehigh and St. Bonaventure.
Raiders Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.), Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) and Stephanie Brown (Medham, N.J.) all saw action in the Flight A Singles. . Inacker won the preliminary round defeating Lehigh’s Stacy Reich but she then lost in round 1, 6-1, 6-0 to St. Bonaventure’s Manuela Marin. DeRose fell to Cornell’s Kristin Lim, 7-6(3), 4-6, (10-5). Williams was defeated in the first round of play by Lehigh’s Julie Arthofer Brown was dropped by Binghamton’s Yulia Smirnova.
Alexi Aberant (Bryn Mawr, Pa) Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Meredith Rock and Asia Lamar allsaw action on the court in the Flight B Singles. Rock was the only one to advance to the second round defeating Gena Levengood of Lehigh before falling to Cornell’s Susan Sullivan. Lamar defeated three opponents to advance to the final round of the B-Singles consolation game only to be defeated 8-6 by Cornell’s Leah Seyburn.
In Doubles action, Brown/ Inacker and DeRose/Willaims participated in the Flight A Doubles. Brown/ Inacker were defeated in the first of play however they won the preliminary round defeating St. Bonaventure’s Maria Barousse and Kalia Garcia- Rojas. DeRose/Williams advanced to the second round of play only to be dropped by Kristin Lim and Sinziana Chis of Cornell. Additionally, Lamar/Bender and Stimmel/Rock both participated in the Flight B Doubles. Both teams fell in the first round of play. However, Stimmel/Rock won the Doubles Consolation game defeating Lehigh’s Gena Levengood and Izzy Breit, 8-2 in the final round.
The women will return to the court in West Point, New York at the Army Invitational on Sept. 25-27.
