Logan Keala
Logan Keala posted a career high 13 kills versus Army.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/26/09) – Logan Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii) posted a career high 13 kills, but it wasn’t enough as visiting Army downed Colgate 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 in a Patriot League volleyball match, Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.

Keala’s effort bested her former mark of 12 set four times, most recently in the Raiders’ victory over St. John’s last weekend in Ithaca.  Kaylee Dougherty (Landisville, Pa.), Maureen Colligan (Odessa, Fla.) and Kaleigh Durket (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) each tallied nine kills on the afternoon.

Army, which improved to 14-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, trailed 24-23 in the opening set.  After fighting off one set point, the Black Knights reeled off four of the next five points to capture the game.

Down 2-0 and tied at 20-20 in the third game, Colgate scored four consecutive points off the serve of Devon Applegate (Davidson, N.C.).  After the Black Knights cut the deficit to 24-22, Durket forced the fourth game with her seventh kill of the match.

The Raiders held four leads in the fourth game, the latest at 18-17 on a kill by Casey Ritt (Colorado Springs, Colo.).  Army recovered by scoring four straight points and Colgate couldn’t get any closer than two the rest of the way.

Army was led by Ariana Mankus’ match-high 16 kills.  Francine Vasquez had 13, while Amanda Rowell and Rachel Dunn each had a dozen in the victory.  Setter Maureen Bannon assisted on 56 of 68 kills by the Black Knights.

Applegate, who leads the Patriot League in digs per set, didn’t do anything to disappoint.  The junior collected a match-high 21 on the afternoon.  Ritt led the Raiders’ blocking cause with a block solo and four block assists.  Meghan Fanta (Hillsboro, Wisc.) posted 25 assists in four sets.

Colgate, which fell to 4-8 overall, will step outside of conference for its next match as it hosts UAlbany, Wednesday evening.  Match time is set for a 7 p.m. start.
