Raiders Finish 11th at Turning Stone Invitational

Verona, NY (9/7/2009)- The Colgate golf team opened its season this weekend, Sept. 6-7th, finishing in 11th place at the Turing Stone Invitational in Verona, N.Y. 

The Invitational was held at the Kaluhyat Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones course.  Measuring in at just over 7,100 yards it is ranked #3 among "America's Best New Upscale Courses" by Golf Digest. Thirteen teams from all across the country competed in this 3-round two-day event.

Colgate was led by sophomore Josh Spellman (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) who shot an 81, 78, and 75 for a two-day total of 234, finishing in 25th place. 

Senior David Ake (Topsfield, Mass.) and senior Nick Parry (Washington, D.C.) finished tied for 45th place.  Ake shot an 85, 80, and 78 for a total of 243 and Parry shot a 76, 88, and 79 for a total of 243 as well. 
Junior Neil Thompson (Sherborn, Mass.)  recorded an 85, 78, and 87 for a total of 250 while sophomore Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) recorded a 79, 89, and 83 for a total of 251. Thompson finished in 55th place and Jessen finished tied for 56th. 
The University of Missouri won the Invitational with a team score of 885. The University of Richmond finished second with an 897 followed by Seton Hall University shooting a 907.
Missouri’s Stuart Ballingall was the top individual scorer finishing 1-under-par with a three-round total of 215.  Michael Coriasso of Oakland University finished second shooting a 216 and Seton Hall’s Colin Van Es finished third with a 218. 
Colgate returns to the green at home on September 12-13, at the Colgate Invitational.
