HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/27/10)— The Colgate University men's lacrosse team has been selected to finish third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. The poll consists of votes from the league's seven coaches and sports information directors, neither of who can vote for their own team.

Colgate came in third with 48 points, while Defending champion, Navy topped the poll with 71 points and 11 first-place votes. Bucknell was picked second with 63 points and three first-place votes. Army rounded out the top four with 45 points, while Lehigh, Lafayette, and Holy Cross wrap up the five through seven spots, respectively.

Colgate was picked third after finishing last season with a 5-1 mark in Patriot League play. The Raiders were edged by eventual champion Navy in the Patriot League semifinals, and look to replace three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Brandon Corp ’09.

Colgate will have the services of seniors Michael Crown (Winnetka, Ill.), Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.), and Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) along with junior Rob Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.).

Crown started all 15 games at defense last season and was selected to the all-Patriot League second team and all-Tournament team.

Harrington has started 43-straight games in goal for the Raiders dating back to 2007. Last season, Harrington won a school-record eight straight games, including 13 saves in the Raiders first-ever win at Navy. In 2008, Harrington led all goalies in the Patriot League with 193 saves, and was named to the Patriot League all-Tournament team following the Raiders championship run.

In 2008, Murphy played all 17 games on Colgate’s top midfield line and was named to the all-Patriot League second team. Murphy was fourth on the team in scoring with 24 goals and four assists for 28 points.

Bosco started all 15 games on Colgate’s top midfield line last season and finished with 14 points off nine goals and five assists. Bosco scored a career-high three points and gathered six groundballs against Fairfield. He also posted a two-goal performance in a win over Army.

The Raiders open the 2010 season at Binghamton on Feb. 20. The game is set to begin at noon.
