Oakes Registers 15 in Loss at Holy Cross
Oakes v lehigh

WORCESTER, Mass. (1/27/10) - Whitney Fremeau scored a game-high 18 points to lead Holy Cross to a 65-56 victory against the visiting Colgate Raiders. The Raiders fall to 6-14 overall and 1-5 in the league while the Crusaders improve to 6-15 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League.

Sophomore Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) led the Raiders with 15 points and added four rebounds while Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) scored a team-high six boards and added seven points. Juniors Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) and Tayler Wejnert (East Brunswick, N.J.) contributed nine points apiece for Colgate.

The Raiders were the first to score, earning a four point lead off lay-ups from Kozlowski and sophomore Holly Havenstein (Mt. Airy, Md.). The Crusaders were quick to come back, going on a 10-1 run to earn a five point lead in just over three minutes.

The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes during which the score was tied three times and the lead changed five times. Holy Cross began to pull away with just over nine minutes left in the half, gaining a seven point lead, 25-18. Colgate pulled within one, 26-25, on a three point play by Oakes but Meredith Ward connected on a three and Briana McFadden added a two-pointer to regain an eight point lead. The Crusaders went into the half-time break holding a 37-29 advantage.

Holy Cross opened the second half with two long-range shots giving the Crusaders a 43-29 lead just a minute and a half into the section. Holy Cross just barely outscored the Raiders in the second half 28-27, but their first half lead gave the Crusaders a large enough advantage to hold on for the 65-56 victory.

The Raiders will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Navy in the first of a three-game home stand. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
