Gniewek and Sweeney Gain All-League Honors
Tuck
Tucker Gniewek

CENTER VALLEY, PA (2/26/2010) –  Colgate’s Tucker Gniewek (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Dan Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) both garnered second team all-conference honors as the Patriot League announced its end of season awards for swimming and diving, Friday afternoon.

Gniewek, who was selected to his third postseason all-league team, qualified for the “A” final in three events.  The junior swam the third fastest time in the program’s history on his way to a fourth-place effort in the 100 free (45.81).  Gniewek then tallied a pair of sixth-place efforts in the 50 free (21.00) and 100 back (50.98).  His performance in the back bested his former school record of 51.16 set at last year’s Patriot League Championships at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium.

Sweeney made immediate impact for the Raiders as a freshman at the three-day event.  The rookie lowered his own Colgate freshman record for the third time this season in the 50 free (21.06) on his way to a third place finish.  Sweeney was the lone first-year competitor to qualify for the “A” final in the event.  In the 100 fly, he touched with a 50.02, which not only served as a new freshman record, but was the second quickest time in the program’s history.  Sweeney finished with an 11th place effort in the 100 free (46.60).

Colgate, which finished fifth at the Patriot League Championships, could return as many as 15 lettermen for the 2010-2011 season.
