Colgate Volleyball Names Captains For 2010 Season
Logan Keala
Logan Keala will be one of three captains for the 2010 season
HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/4/2010) - Devon Applegate (Davidson, N.C.), Logan Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Casey Ritt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) have been chosen to serve as team captains for the 2010 Colgate volleyball season, it was recently announced.

“These three juniors have been a major part of our success on and off the court the past three years,” said Colgate head coach Ryan Baker.  “Each of them has a distinctly different personality that meshes well with each other.

“Casey leads by example.  She has a terrific work ethic and encourages her teammates to put in hours as well,” continued Baker.  “Logan is the vocal leader of the group.  She demands a lot from her teammates and knows what to say and when to say it.  Devon is the quiet leader with great organizational skills.  She is always there to help her teammates when they need someone to talk with.  I’m excited to work along side these three juniors in our quest for a Patriot League Championship in 2010.”

In 2009, Applegate was one of the top liberos in the Patriot League.  Finishing second in the league in digs per set (3.99), the junior collected 23 matches of 10 or more digs and six performances of 20 or more.  On November 11, Applegate notched career highs with 29 digs and four service aces as Colgate downed league-rival Lehigh in five sets.

Keala, a 5-10 outside hitter, was recently named Colgate’s Defensive Player of the Year.  The junior finished the season with 229 kills, 29 aces, 266 digs and 27 blocks.  Keala, who posted a career-high 16 digs and five blocks at Navy on October 2, 2009, finished second on the squad in both digs and aces.

Ritt, a two-time first team all-Patriot League honoree, finished second in the league in blocks (0.98 bpg) and seventh in hitting percentage (.263).  In 28 matches, she posted 218 kills, 65 digs, 16 aces, and 104 blocks.  Ritt had eight matches of 10 or more kills, including one double double. On October 28, she hit .455 with 11 kills and 10 blocks in a five-set victory against America East champ Binghamton.

Colgate, which finished with a 15-13 overall record and a 11-3 mark in league play, returns five starters plus its’ libero for the 2010 campaign.
