Colgate Softball Defeats Wagner and Manhattan

KISSIMMEE, FL (3/13/2010) – Stephanie Hartquist (Homer, N.Y.) drove in two runs to pace Colgate to a 5-1 victory over Wagner in its first performance at Rebel Games, Saturday evening outside of Orlando. The Raiders won the nightcap 7-4 over Manhattan.
After the Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Colgate knotted the contest in the fourth. With a runner at first and one out, Natalie Siedhof (Canton, Pa.) singled and Nicole Siedhof (Canton, Pa.) followed with a walk to load the bases. With two outs, freshman Courtney O’Connell (Palm Harbor, Fla.) brought Hartquist home by drawing a base on balls.
Colgate grabbed the lead for good in the fifth. Brittany Hanrahan (Frankfort, Ill.) plated Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) from third with a sacrifice fly to center. The Raiders added insurance runs in the sixth as Nicole Siedhof scored on a single by Ortega and Hartquist later added a two-run single to right.
Michelle Hollebeke (North Reading, Mass.) went the distance on a five hitter to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Melissa Babb-Renta (Glenview, Ill.) went a perfect three for three with two RBI to lead the eight-hit attack versus the Jaspers. Hartquist and Nicole Siedhof also drove in a pair of runs as well. Ortega stretched her hitting streak to 14 games dating back to last year with a two-hit, one RBI and two stolen base outing.
Jesse McCarrick (Oak Hill, Va.) gave up three hits and struck out two in six plus innings to improve to 4-0 on the young season. After Manhattan closed to within 7-4, O’Connell entered the game and got out of a runners at second and third with no outs jam in the seventh to pick up her second career save. The Raiders scored runs in five of the seven innings.
Colgate, 7-1 overall, returns to action Sunday afternoon as it plays Marist at 1 p.m. and then will square off with Rider at 5 p.m.
