ORLANDO, Fla. (3/18/10) – The Colgate men’s tennis team fell to the South Carolina State Bulldogs, 6-1, Wednesday evening in Orlando, Fla. The Raiders are now 5-4 overall while the Bulldogs improve to 5-3.
The Raiders lone win came at first singles as senior Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) defeated South Carolina State’s Radek Pivonka, 6-1, 6-4. Classmate Phil Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn.) fell at second doubles, 6-0, 6-2, to Gabriel Meana, while senior John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) dropped his No. 3 singles match, 6-4, 6-1, to the Bulldogs’ Dmytro Kovalevych.
In doubles action, Yassky and Nogueras nearly outlasted the duo of Alexander Malko and Kovalvych, but fell 9-8 at the No. 2 position. Partners Bernasek and Ruslan Goussiantnikov (Needham, Mass.) dropped their first doubles match to Meana and David Grund, 8-1. Sophomores Sean Spellberg (Naples, Fla.) and Connor Feuille (San Francisco, Calif.) fell to Jan Langer and Radek Langer, 8-1, at the No. 3 spot.
