ORLANDO, Fla. (3/19/10) - The Colgate women’s tennis team dropped their final match of their trip to Orlando, Fla., falling to Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, on Thursday, March 18. The match was rescheduled from the previous day. The Raiders now drop to 5-4 overall while the Knights improve to 8-4 in dual meets.
Colgate senior Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) dropped her No. 1 singles match to Julija Korshunova, 6-3, 6-2, while classmate Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill) fell 6-3, 6-0 to Elmine Botes in the second singles position. Fellow senior Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) dropped her No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-0, to Julia Prantl, while junior Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was downed in straight sets at the fourth singles position. Stephanie Brown (Mendham, N.J.) and Merideth Rock (Kansas City, Mo.) dropped their No. 5 and 6 matches, respectively. Brown fell to senior Ksenia Chernyshova, 6-0, 6-2, while Rock was defeated by Jessica DeCarlos, 6-4, 6-4.
The Knights swept Colgate in doubles play as well, as Botes and Korshunova outlasted DeRose and Williams, 8-6, at the top spot. Prantl and Egzona Morina downed Inacker and Stephanie Bender (Amityville, N.Y.), 8-2, at second doubles while Brown and rookie Asia Lamar (Olympia Fields, Ill.) fell to Chernyshova and Dzana Ferhatbegovic, 8-4, at third doubles.
The Raiders will now open their Patriot League schedule against Army on Saturday, March 27 in West Point, N.Y.
