CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (03/02/10) - Colgate freshman Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) of the women’s basketball team was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 2.

 

The guard averages 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and leads the team in steals with 1.5 per game. She led the team in scoring during Patriot League play with 9.3 points per game. Lynch also led the squad in scoring five times and twice led them in rebounding during the regular season, recording a career-high 25 points against Rider on Nov. 16. She was also named the Patriot League Anaconda Rookie of the Week three times during the season.

 

Lynch, who also made the All-Rookie team, was the lone Colgate player selected to an All-League team. She is the first Raider to ever receive the Rookie of the Year award. Along with averaging 9.3 points during league play, she also registered 23 assists and 17 steals in conference play, helping lead Colgate to their best league record since 2005-06.

 

Lynch and the rest of the Raiders will be back in action this weekend when they take on Navy as the No. 6 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Navy earned the third seed in the tournament after defeating Colgate, 69-50, this past Saturday.
