CHANDLER, Ariz. (3/19/10) - The Raiders golf team finished sixth of seven teams at the Dutch Desert Shootout in Chandler, Ariz. on Wednesday, March 17. Three Division I and four Division II teams competed at the event, including host team Grand Canyon University.
Grand Canyon and Wisconsin-Parkside finished tied for the top spot, each with a score of 288, just four over par. The event was held at Ocotillo Golf Resort which is a par 71 and is 6,782 yards.
Tied for sixth overall, freshman Will Delano (New Canaan, Conn.) was the top finisher for the Raiders, shooting one over par and three over the overall leader with a 72 (38-34). Senior captain David Ake (Topsfield, Mass.) came in tied at 25th, carding an 80 (41-39) on the day. Neil Thompson (Sherborn, Mass.), Josh Spellman (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) and Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) all finished tied for 34th with a score of 83.
Colgate senior Nick Parry (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Chase Williams (Columbus, Ohio) competed individually and finished 31st and 39th, respectively. Parry shot an 82 (39-43) while Williams carded an 88 (48-40).
Wisconsin-Parkside’s Mike Keller and Andy Hansen joined Grand Canyon’s Tyler Wooldridge for the low score, all finishing two-under-par with a 69. Grand Canyon’s Robbie LaMacchia and Matt Pridey finished fourth and fifth, respectively, rounding out the top five finishers.
The Colgate men’s golf team will get right back on the course at the George Washington Invitational, March 19-20, at the Bear Trap Dunes in Bethany Beach, Del.
