CENTER VALLEY, PA (3/8/2010) – Following a hot start to the 2010 season, Colgate’s Jennifer Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) was named the Patriot League softball player of the week, it was announced Monday afternoon.
The sophomore paced the Raiders to a 5-1 weekend in the Tidewater Area, which is Colgate’s best start since the 2006 campaign.
Ortega hit safely in all six games and extended her hitting streak to 12 games dating back to last season. She batted .611 with six extra base hits, three homers, 10 RBI and stole seven bases. Her two-run homer in the bottom of the third in a 3-1 victory over St. Bonaventure, Sunday afternoon gave her 10 for her career, which is tied for sixth on the all-time list at Colgate. In the season opener, Ortega went three for three with three RBI and three stolen bases in an 11-2 victory at Hampton.
Colgate returns to action this weekend as it opens play at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee. The Raiders will play Wagner and Manhattan Saturday afternoon.
