BETHLEHEM, Pa. (4/11/10) - The Colgate women’s tennis team downed Patriot League opponent Lehigh, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. The Raiders are now 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the league while the Mountain Hawks drop to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
“I was so proud of the heart and fight the girls showed today,” commented head coach Bobby Pennington.
The Raiders earned wins in both their first and second doubles matches. Seniors Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) downed Julie Arthofer and Isabel Breit, 9-8, at the No. 1 position, while Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Stephanie Bender (Amityville, N.Y.) defeated Patricia Muething and Stacey Reich, 9-8, at second doubles.
In singles action, DeRose took down Arthofer, 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 1 spot while sophomore Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) outlasted Muething, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 at fourth singles. Stephanie Brown (Mendham, N.J.) defeated Reich, 7-6, 6-3 at fifth singles and freshman Merideth Rock (Kansas City, Mo.) downed Breit, 6-4, 6-2.
The Raiders will host the Patriot League Tournament this upcoming weekend April 16-18 in Hamilton, N.Y.
