ALLENTOWN, Pa. (4/12/10) - Sophomores Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) and Josh Spellman (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) led the Colgate golf team to a 10th place finish out of 19 teams at the Lafayette Invitational held at Center Valley Club in Allentown, Pa.
Both Jessen and Spellman, who were the Raiders top performers last weekend at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational, fought off the elements as they each shot a two-round score of 153.
Jessen started the weekend with an 81, before firing an even par 72 in the second and final round of the tournament. Spellman kept his scores in the 70’s on the weekend, shooting 79-74, to total 153. The sophomores scores were good enough to put them in a tie for 23rd out of an 105-person field.
Senior Dave Ake (Topsfield, Mass.) ended the weekend just three strokes back of his second-year teammates, shooting a 156 on two rounds of 78. Ake’s two-round total placed him in a tie for 37th place.
Neil Thompson (Sherborn, Mass.) and Jack Linehan (West Simsbury, Conn.) rounded out the five-man team for Colgate at the event, shooting a 166 (87-79) and 163 (80-83) respectively.
Binghamton University took home the first place team trophy, shooting a two-day team score of 600 (310-290), edging out Bucknell by two strokes. Host Lafayette finished in third place, while Lehigh tied for fifth.
The Raiders will take to the course next weekend when they travel down to Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Invitational.
