HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/24/2010) –
Lauren Dykstra netted six goals to lead visiting Lehigh to a 15-12 victory over Colgate, Saturday evening in Patriot League women’s lacrosse action at Tyler’s Field.

With the victory, the Mountain Hawks, who improved to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in league action, clinched the top seed in next weekend’s league tournament.  Two-time defending tournament champion, Colgate will serve as the third seed and will open with second seeded Navy.  The Raiders dropped to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in league action.

Kate Bergstrom (San Francisco, Calif.) led Colgate offensively with a career-high four-goal, one-assist outing.  Meghan Lawler (Liverpool, N.Y.) wrapped up her final appearance on Tyler’s Field with a four-point outing on two goals and two assists.  Katie Sullivan (Cockeysville, Md.) and Courtney Miller (Chappaqua, N.Y.) each added a pair of scores.

The Raiders appeared to be the stronger team in the early going and took a 4-1 lead in the opening 13 minutes.  Bergstrom and Lawler scored back to back goals with 24:14 and 21:35 left in the opening half to give Colgate a 2-0 lead.  After the Mountain Hawks got on the board at 18:47, Bergstrom and Sullivan found the back of the net 10 seconds apart to give the Raiders their largest lead of the game, which started an hour late due to bus problems by Lehigh.

Holding a 4-3 lead, Miller gave Colgate its final multi-goal lead of the contest with her 33rd of the year on a free position shot.  Lehigh reeled off five consecutive goals in the matter of 4:49 to take an 8-5 lead.  Inneke Carmola gave the Mountain Hawks the lead for good with 8:16 remaining in the opening half.  The senior scored three-consecutive goals for the Mountain Hawks, who held a 9-6 advantage at intermission.

Trailing 11-7, Colgate pulled within two on back-to-back goals by Quincey Spagnoletti (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Sullivan with less than 20 minutes left.  It was Spagnoletti’s seventh straight game with at least one goal.  However, Dykstra answered 17 seconds after Sullivan’s second goal of the contest as Lehigh regained the three-goal lead.

Down 14-10, the Raiders made one last charge and received goals from Colleen Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Bergstrom to pull within two with 2:22 remaining.  Lauren Murray salted the game away with 41 seconds left by scoring on an empty net.

With her four-point outing, Lawler moved by Kate Manzella into fourth on the all-time scoring list at Colgate with 208 points.  The senior is five points away from moving by Kelly Winning for third.  Her two goals pushed her into a tie for seventh overall with Cindy Headley each with 124 in their respective careers.  Lawler’s 75 points on the season ranks fifth on the all-time single season charts at Colgate.

Christina Roa (Potomac, Md.) saved 10 shots in the loss for the Raiders.  The sophomore moved into ninth on Colgate’s single season save list by passing former standout Sue Bielamowicz and Winnie Chao.  She has 175 stops on the year.  It was the 12th time this season she has posted double figured save totals.

Colgate will square off against Navy in Bethlehem, Pa., Friday.  Game times are yet to be determined.  The Raiders will be looking to avenge an earlier 12-8 setback at the hands of the Mids, April 3 in Hamilton.
