Three Swimmers Garner National Recognition
Swimming Trio
HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/28/2010)  – Colgate’s Erica Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.), Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), and Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) received national recognition as Collegeswimming.com announced its Mid-Major All-America squads for the 2009-2010 season.

All three captured first team all-Patriot League honors this past February.  The trio combined for two league individual titles and six second place finishes.  Derlath, Guyett, and McGraw each met NCAA Division I “B” qualifying marks in at least one event during the course of the season.

“This is not only a big honor for Erin, Caren and Erica, but for our program as well,” said Colgate head coach Stephen Jungbluth.  “The entire team played a role in helping what these three accomplished this season.  I’m very proud of all three.”

McGraw, a co-winner of the Team MVP, won her fifth individual crown at the league championships with a school-record 1:59.82 performance in the 200 fly.  The junior copped a pair of second place efforts in the 200 IM and the 100 fly.

Derlath tallied three top five efforts at the league meet, including capturing the individual title in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.11.  The sophomore also placed second in the 1650 free and fourth in the 500 free.

Guyett, who shared Team MVP honors with McGraw, left Annapolis with three second place efforts.  The junior set the school record in the 500 free (4:50.64) in her opening final.  Guyett later returned to finish second to Derlath in the 400 IM and runner-up to McGraw in the 200 fly.  She will be competing at the 2010 U.S. Openwater National Championships in Long Beach, Calif.  Guyett qualified for the 5,000-meter race in mid-March in Buffalo.
