HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/29/10) — The Colgate University women’s track and field team will hit the road to Bucknell this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Championships on April 30-May 2. The Raiders finished third in last year’s championship meet.
Colgate was picked to finish sixth overall in the preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. The field events for the women will start at 12 p.m., while the heptathlon kicks off at 12:20 p.m., and the running events start at 2:30 p.m.
Sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newton, Conn.), will look to pick-up where she left off by repeating her indoor performance. DeRoo earned first-team honors during the indoor season after winning two individual titles in the 5,000- and 3,000-meter runs. DeRoo currently holds the fastest time in the Patriot League in the 5k and sits among the top-40 in the East Region. The top-48 times qualify for each NCAA Regional Championship.
The Raiders 4x800-meter relay team finished fifth last season, and enters this year as the top-seeded team after posting the fastest time in the league. The team of Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.), Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.), Kendall Lyons (Wilton, Conn.) and DeRoo recorded a time of 9:04.78 at the Penn Relays.
