LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/4/10) - The Colgate men's and women's tennis teams both fell to Patriot League foe, Bucknell on Saturday, April 4, in Lewisburg, Pa. The men drop to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the league after falling to the Bison, 5-2. The women's squad fall to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference after dropping their match at Bucknell, 6-1.
Colgate senior Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) won the women's lone singles match, defeating Bucknell's Carlin Calcaterra, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 position. The Raiders dropped all three doubles matches with seniors Williams and Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) falling to Tania Varela and Lauren Lucido, 8-2 in the No. 1 spot. Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Stephanie Bender (Amityville, N.Y.) dropped their second doubles match to Calcaterra and Courtney Casey, 8-5, while Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Merideth Rock (Kansas City, Mo.) fell to Dumitrita Iepuras and Daria Tuzhikova, 8-1, in the No. 3 position.
In men's action, senior John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) and freshman Alec Goldstein (Bethesda, Md.) claimed the Raiders only singles victories. Nogueras defeated Josh Katten, 6-3, 6-3, at third singles, while Goldstein downed Zach Hascoe, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 position. Senior Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) took his No. 1 singles match to three sets, eventually falling to Anton Kovic, 4-6, 6-7, 5-10. In doubles play, the Raiders remained close in all three matches, but were unable to earn a win. The duo of Yassky and Nogueras fell to Kovic and Kelly Morque, 8-6, in the No. 1 position. Phil Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ruslan Goussiantnikov (Needham, Mass.) dropped their second doubles match to Gregg Cohenca and Ryan Marcil, 9-8. Freshmen pair of Goldstein and Harry Jewett (Centennial, Colo.) suffered an 8-4 loss to Katten and Evan Zimmer at the third doubles slot.
The women's team will be back in action this Saturday, April 10 when they take on Lehigh at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa. The men will return to the courts this Tuesday, April 6, when they host Hamilton at 4 p.m.
