Raiders Advance to Semifinals at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (5/10/10) -   The Colgate women’s rowing team finished out their spring season at the Dad Vail Regatta this past weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with thousands of student-athletes representing over 100 colleges and Universities from the U.S. and Canada.
 
The Raiders entered two boats in the regatta, both the junior varsity eight and varsity eight. The preliminary heats were run on Friday, May 7 with the semi-finals and final rounds held on Saturday, May 8. Colgate’s junior varsity boat finished fourth in its opening heat with a time of 7:38.422. Buffalo earned the top spot finishing in 7:08.272 with just the first three boats advancing. Rowing in the junior varsity boat were Louisa Jelaco (Seattle, Wash.), Kirsten Kellstrom (Chatham, N.J.), Katie Rice (Canton, Ohio), Larissa Pauli (Southampton, N.Y.), Lauren Davis (Thornhill, Ont.), Laura Crawford (Allentown, N.J.), Jayne Tamboia (Redding, Conn.), Gabby Cambanis (Athens, Greece) and Stephanie Hamilton (Newton, Mass.) as coxswain.
 
In the women’s varsity eight race the first two boats advanced to the semifinals with the Colgate boat coming in second place with a time of 6:50.429. Purdue finished six seconds ahead of the Raiders at 6:44.857. The Raiders raced in the third semifinal on Saturday, earning a time of 7:18.137 for sixth place. Rowing in the varsity eight boat for Colgate were Lauren Schmetterling (Moorestown, N.J.), Shannon Jackson (Roswell, Ga.), Vicky Hulit (Rye, N.Y.), Natalie Bauman (Lancaster, N.Y.), Kate Thomson (Vashon Island, Wash.), Kalin Hennegan (Littleton, Colo.), Elspeth Monigle (Denver, Colo.), Katie Johnescu (York, Pa.) and Jillian Anderson (East Walpole, Mass.) as coxswain.
