LEWISBURG, Pa. (5/1/10)— Colgate University sophomore
Elise DeRoo (Newton, Conn.) won the 5,000-meter run title during the final day of competition at the Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Bucknell.
The Raiders and Lafayette finished tied for sixth with 56 points, while Bucknell won the title with 191 points.
DeRoo ran with the pack until the 1.5-mile mark, and then exploded, lapping most of the field, to claim her second title in as many days. DeRoo finished with a time of 17:21.19 and still sits among the top-40 in the Eastern Region, with the top-48 times qualify for each NCAA Regional Championship.
Senior
Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) earned all-Patriot League honors in two events, the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. She also scored in the 200-meter dash and the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, to accumulate 19 points in the final day.
Niness finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 57.24, and then followed that performance with a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.54.
Sophomore
Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) finished third in the 1,500-meter run with a school record time of 4:31.72. Her time was a personal-record and nearly four seconds faster than the previous Colgate record of 4:35.15, set by Liz Crowley ’07, in 2007.
A selection of runners will continue the season next weekend at the ECAC Championship at Princeton University.
