CENTER VALLEY, PA. (5/3/2010)  – After helping Colgate softball win three of four games at Lafayette last weekend, Courtney O’Connell (Palm Harbor, Fla.) has been named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

The freshman went a perfect 2-0 as the Raiders secured the final spot in the league tournament, May 13-15.  O’Connell tossed her first complete game shutout of her career with a three-hitter as the Raiders downed the Leopards 9-0 in the opening game of the series, Saturday.  She returned the following day allowing two earned runs and seven hits in seven innings of work in Colgate’s 4-2 victory.  With the decision, she won her third-consecutive league start.  O’Connell, who boasts an 8-5 record in the circle for the Raiders, finished the weekend with a 1.07 earned run average.  It’s the first time she has been recognized by the league office in the weekly awards.

Colgate returns to action this Friday afternoon as it hosts Army at Eaton Street Field.  This is a make-up date for an earlier doubleheader that was washed out.  Game time is set for a 1 p.m. start.
