Raiders Compete at ECAC Championships

HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/3/10) -   The Colgate women’s rowing team competed at the ECAC Mid-Atlantic/New England Regional Rowing Championships this past weekend in Camden, N.J. The Raiders entered both their varsity eight and second varsity eight boats.
 
The women’s second varsity eight boat finished fifth in their opening heat with a time of 7:33.405. The University of Rhode Island finished first in the heat rowing a time of 6:55.939, followed by Bucknell, Navy and Delaware, respectively. Racing in the Raiders boat were Louisa Jelaco (Seattle, Wash.), Kirsten Kellstrom (Chatham, N.J.), Katie Rice (Canton, Ohio), Larissa Pauli (Southampton, N.Y.), Lauren Davis (Thornhill, Ont.), Laura Crawford (Allentown, N.J.), Jayne Tamboia (Redding, Conn.), Gabby Cambanis (Athens, Greece) and Stephanie Hamilton (Newton, Mass.) as coxswain.
 
In the varsity eight heat the Raiders finished fourth with a time of 7:02.837, qualifying them for the Petite Final race. The University of Rhode Island placed first in the heat with a time of 6:45.654, followed by Fordham and Navy while George Washington finishing behind Colgate in fifth place.
 
Colgate won the Petite Final race beating out West Virginia, George Washington, Villanova and Duquesne, with a time of 6:49.832. West Virginia placed second in the event at 6:54.127. Rowing in the varsity eight boat for Colgate were Lauren Schmetterling (Moorestown, N.J.), Shannon Jackson (Roswell, Ga.), Vicky Hulit (Rye, N.Y.), Natalie Bauman (Lancaster, N.Y.), Kate Thomson (Vashon Island, Wash.), Kalin Hennegan (Littleton, Colo.), Elspeth Monigle (Denver, Colo.), Katie Johnescu (York, Pa.) and Jillian Anderson (East Walpole, Mass.) as coxswain.
 
The Raiders will next race at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 7-8. The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and Universities from the U.S. and Canada.
