SYRACUSE, N.Y. (8/29/10) –The Colgate women’s soccer team experienced its third setback of the season 2-1, after failing to hold an early lead against Syracuse on Sunday Aug. 29 in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Raiders (0-3) got on the board first in the 32nd minute, when senior forward Anna Baldwin (Woodbury, Conn.) caught the Syracuse goalkeeper off her line and lobbed the ball into the right corner of the goal. Her goal, which was the lone goal of the half, was the result of a brilliant pass from junior midfielder Maddie Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.).

"The first half of the game was very encouraging because mentally and physically, it was the best half we have played this season," stated head coach Kathy Brawn. "Going into the second half, we knew that Syracuse would turn things up and unfortunately we let our guard down which you just can't do against a team like Syracuse or any other opponent for that matter."

The Orange (1-1-2) came back strong in the second half with an early goal to level the score at 1-1. Eight minutes later, Syracuse scored the second and final goal of the game from a corner kick; taking their first win of the season.

"It was a disappointing way to lose because the game could have gone either way," Brawn said. "What it came down to was mental toughness, and the tougher team won the game today."

The Raiders will continue their season on the road when they face Dartmouth on Sept. 3 and Brown on Sept. 5 in Hannover, N.H. at the Dartmouth Nike Classic Tournament.
