The Colgate University women’s cross county team gets its 2010 campaign started on Saturday, Sept, 4, hosting the annual Harry Lang Invitational. The women’s race is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
2010 SEASON OUTLOOK
The Raiders were selected to finish fourth in the Patriot League this season according to the league’s coaches and sports information directors. Colgate returns 14 runners from last year’s fourth place squad, including Patriot League Female Runner of the Year junior Elise DeRoo (Newton, Conn.). DeRoo along with senior Julie Tarallo (Easton, Mass.) who earned all-Patriot League second team honors and sophomore Kelly Cattano (New Providence, N.J.) were Colgate’s top runners for the 2009 season.
Other top runners returning for the Raiders are junior Emma Eckerstrom (Boyas, Md.) who hit new PR’s in early season meets last year, finishing 9th on the team, before sustaining an injury will be welcomed back. The raiders also welcome back senior Allie Bodack (Short Hills, N.J.) and sophomores Jeannie Sauter (Canandaigua, NY.), along with Colgate’s last seasons Outstanding Freshman Caroline Prins (Bernardsville, NJ.). In her first year of cross-country, Prins ran 18:55 for 5K and worked her way into the varsity top-7.
2009 Honors
Elise DeRoo was named the Patriot League Female Runner of the Year following her first-place performance at the Patriot League Championship. DeRoo was also named the Patriot League Female Runner of the Week twice this season, following her performances at the Harry Lang Invitational and Albany Invitational. DeRoo also owns the individual title in both meets.

The 2009 Patriot League Women’s Coach of the Year and 2000 Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year, Laura Nardelli, is in her 13th season as the head coach of the women's track and field program, and her ninth season as the head women's cross country coach at Colgate University.
Nardelli coached both the men's and women's track and field teams at Colgate before taking over as the women's cross country and track and field coach in 2001.
In 2007, Nardelli coached two cross country members to first-team all-Patriot League recognition as Stacey Marion '11 became the first rookie runner in history to also claim the league title, and Elizabeth Kennedy '08 finished fourth. Kennedy later took the ECAC title and went on garner NCAA All-Region honors, as she led the team to an all-time high 12th place finish in the Northeast. Nardelli’s cross-country teams have also been honored with the NCAA Division I All-Academic Team award for 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008.
In 2009 Nardelli’s track & field squad earned 22 All-Patriot League titles, and Curry Knox was named Patriot League track athlete of the meet outdoors after she won the 100, 100 hurdles, and anchored the 4 x 100 relay, and took 2nd place in the 200. The team finished 3rd in the league, the highest finish since 1995.
In 2000, Nardelli was named the Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to a third-place team finish, their best since the first league meet in 1991. At Colgate, Nardelli has produced 117 All-Patriot League performers, seven Patriot League Athletes of the Meet, five ECAC medalists, and ten NCAA qualifiers.
