2009 marks Coach Harrington’s first year heading up Colgate University’s strength and conditioning program.

Prior to joining the Raider staff, Harrington led the West Point football strength program from 2008 to 2009.

From 2003 to 2007, Harrington worked as the first assistant with the Black Knights football program while heading up the men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and swim/dive strength and conditioning programs.

While at West Point, Coach Harrington pioneered in taking his program on the road each summer since 2004, traveling to Fort Sill, Oklahoma to train the 40 plus football athletes sent by the academy for military development.  This was a highly advantageous situation for keeping the continuity of the strength and conditioning program throughout the summer months.

Prior to joining the Black Knights staff, Harrington earned his Master’s degree in Biomechanics at Michigan State University, graduating in 2005.  There he worked as Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with football, helping the Spartans to the Silicon Valley Football Classic Bowl in 2002.

Harrington was a standout for Hillsdale College football as a special team’s player, earning 4 varsity letters (1995-1999), academic All-American honors (1999), and All-Conference special team’s honors in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (1999), averaging 5 tackles per year as a long snapper.

Harrington is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association and holds a Masters Degree in Biomechanics.

Along with his work as strength and conditioning coach, Harrington has authored original biomechanical research on the long snap for football; developing ground breaking techniques for coaching the skill, as well as, producing an original instructional DVD system on the subject.

2009 marks the first year with Joel Brown as Colgate’s Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to his position at Colgate, Brown was the Director of the Strength and Conditioning program for Training Champions Institute in East Syracuse, NY which catered to the sports performance needs of hundreds of athletes from all sports and skill-levels.

Brown has served as an annual presenter for the past two years at Upstate Medical University’s “Sports Symposium” held in Central New York. His topics of expertise at this event are athlete assessments, corrective exercise for sports performance progressions, and sports specific program design for strength, speed, power and flexibility. Brown’s ongoing involvement within the local community is also well documented with his active role in the “9KIDS Challenge” which is an effort to structure today’s youth into young athletes and well-rounded members of society. His responsibilities include creating sports performance based programs for those involved, keeping records to show progressions, and appearing on Newschannel9 monthly to discuss health and sports performance topics.

Coach Brown earned his Masters Degree in Exercise Science, with a concentration in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention, from California University of Pennsylvania in 2009. In addition to his academic education, Brown holds sports performance and coaching certifications with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE).
